On March 22, Hayan Abdul Ghani, Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Oil, along with the Minister of Electricity, Deputy Minister of Oil, and other senior officials visited the Halfaya oilfield.

CNPC (Iraq) Halfaya Company briefed them about the construction process of the Halfaya project and the overall situation of the main ground facilities, especially the Gas Processing Plant (GPP) under construction, the supply of natural gas to local gas power plants, and the Halfaya Phase I, II, and III Central Processing Facilities (CPF) in operation.

Since the beginning of this year, Halfaya Company has taken an active initiative to implement green and low-carbon concept and accelerate the construction and upgrading of supporting facilities for natural gas. Currently at the peak of construction, the GPP project is expected to be put into trial operation by the end of the year. Once it comes on line, the plant will enable the comprehensive utilization of associated gas and promote local economic development.

The main purpose of the visit was to promote the supply of natural gas to ease local electricity shortage. Halfaya Company stated that, it will attach great importance to local electricity supply in hot summer weather and prioritize the supply of natural gas through preplanning on associated gas production, proper maintenance of equipment and facilities like compressors, and arrangement regarding the shifts of key personnel during peak seasons. In this way, the oilfield can significantly increase gas supply during summer and benefit the well-being of local people.
